Destinations / France / French Riviera / Antibes
A Greek town, then a Roman town, but always a Meditterranean town. Antibes is a lovely resort on the French Riviera holiday trail. A sister resort of neighbouring Juan-les Pins, Antibes is considered the more "grown up" of the two, offering a modicum of history, culture and innovation.
For holidays in France, Antibes is doubtless an exclusive destination where upmarket restaurants, chic cafes and bars and designer shopping are all the fashion. The locals are stylish and the whole area has that indefinable quality of sophistication and "je ne sais quoi". Antibes hotels are professionally run and maintain good standards.
The beach is perfectly sandy and offers lots of watersports and, if a day of delicious relaxation under a lovely parasol is not your idea of heaven, then simply choose to walk round the historic ramparts or wander the picturesque streets, sip a cooling drink at a pavement cafe or stroll around Port Vauban, now one of the largest marinas in Europe.
Located just 20 km from Nice and 12 km from Cannes, it is easy to take the train and visit the other towns on the coast. Transport is both cheap and accessible.
"Jazz a Juan" held every July in Juan-les-Pins is a world renowned jazz festival which attracts the world's greats. Antibes is also rich in museums and the natural beauty of the "vieille ville" offers up plenty of little streets for exploring and discovering hidden gems like local craft shops and artisan workshops.
There are no flights to Antibes, but direct flights from Ireland to Nice guarantees this gorgeous resort is only a few hours away. Antibes is a French Riviera holiday destination that is memorable for all the right reasons.
