Destinations / Italy / Sicily / Taormina
Fashionable and fun, Taormina is well established as a holiday centre on the east coast of the island. The resort is crazy busy in high summer as hordes of visitors descend for the beauties of the beach and perhaps a bit of culture.
For holidays to Italy, but especially Sicily, Taormina is popular because it has decent infrastructure and access to the lovely beach at Mazzaro Bay. The sandy playground for Taormina, Mazzaro beach is trendy and chic and provides a natural catwalk for both local and international body parading!
A good town for shopping, Taormina has many upmarket boutiques and plenty of shops showcasing local arts and crafts. Ceramics, leather items, fashion accessories and jewellry are high quality and, of course, well renowned for puppet and porcelain doll making, there are many dedicated shops.
A wonderful amphitheatre, a legacy of Taormina's Greek past, houses the festival of music (rock, classical etc.), theatre and dance every summer. The views of Mt. Etna (approx. 40 minutes drive southwest of Taormina), from the resort are amazing as it is often possible to see smoke billowing from the crater!
The resorts of Giardini Naxos and Letojanni are pretty and attractive seaside towns located quite close to Taormina and are well worth exploring. We have a selection of properties available in each.
There are no flights to Taormina, but direct flights from Dublin to Catania, just 1 hour away, guarantee the accessibility of Sicily and Taormina.
A holiday in Sicily is an Italian holiday with a difference. You will be entranced by the historical treasures, captivated by the beaches and mesmerised by the warmth of the people. Truly, holidays in Taormina cast a magical spell.
