Still a little sleepy by day, Carvoeiro is an original fishing hamlet nestled between dramatic cliffs. Its quaint setting with traditional whitewashed Portuguese buildings, the variety of accommodation and compact layout has made Carvoeiro highly popular with international and native Portuguese visitors.
Smaller than its Algarve cohorts, Carvoeiro has plenty of excellent restaurants serving delicious fish and seafood and international cuisine. The main square, lined with bars and cafés, looks out on the idyllic beach and cliffs, making for a perfect spot to relax with a cocktail and watch the sunset.
Activities in Carvoeiro
- Golf: The Algarve is a known golfer’s haven and the small town of Carvoeiro is no different with two golf courses nearby: Quinta de Gramacho and Vale de Pinta.
- Hiking: There are two great hiking trails in Carvoeiro. The 5km O Percurso dos Sete Vales Suspensos trail from Praia da Centeanes to the Praia da Marinha and the more relaxed Carvoeiro Boardwalk, which extends from the town to the Algar Seco rock formations.
- Kayak: Explore the coastline and its caves by kayak like the iconic Benagil Caves and learn about the diverse ecosystem from a qualified marine biologist.
Carvoeiro manages to successfully blend a touch of modern and old-fashioned and this is part of its distinct attraction and charm.
