Destinations / Spain / Costa Barcelona Maresme / Malgrat de Mar
Malgrat de Mar holidays are heaven sent for relaxation and laid back sunshine breaks on Spain's north east coast. Located on the lovely Costa Barcelona Maresme, the resort of Malgrat de Mar lies between Santa Susanna and Blanes and is only about 1 hour from beautiful Barcelona itself.
Subjects to in Malgrat de Mar have been given the official stamp of approval for family tourism by Turisme de Catalunya as facilities are specially geared towards family style holidays with great beaches, amenities for children and plenty of family friendly restaurants. Central beach in the middle of the resort has Blue Flag status and stretches for 1k and the 900m beach at L'Astillero is also sandy and safe; whilst Conca beach with its dunes even has a nudist zone.
For fun and entertainment, holidays in Malgrat de Mar provide Festival of St. Roc, a live music carnival held in mid August and plenty of mini festivals and craft markets throughout the season. Nightlife in the resort is lively enough (but not brash) with lots of good local restaurants, typical bars and Discoteca Tropicana comes well recommended! Take a trip to Pallafolls Marineland which is part water park and part marine zoo and enjoy a marvellous family treat.
Malgrat de Mar was an unassuming agricultural town until tourism came to visit in the 1960's. The old part of town still retains a strong cultural heritage and lots of charming character. Crammed with buildings from a bygone age, a landmark is El Castell, hailing from the 14th century. Subjects to in Malgrat de Mar also benefit from the natural landscape around it and there are green spaces, opportunities for hiking and nature walks and, of course following the rugged Costa to enjoy secluded coves and inlets where the warm waters of the Mediterranean lap the shores.
There are no direct flights to Malgrat de Mar, but regular connections to Barcelona from Ireland mean the resort is easily accessible and we offer a selection of accommodation in the resort.
