Destinations / Spain / Costa Del Sol / San Pedro de Alcantara
Subjects to in San Pedro de Alcantara are simply delightful as this is a very typical Spanish town which has thankfully remained true to its regional roots. Pretty, traditional and oozing charm and character, the town has lovely architecture, redolent of the Moorish traces which are evident all along the Andalucian coast. Once a small farming community heavily reliant on a sugar cane crop, San Pedro de Alcantara is now a buzzing resort town. A Costa del Sol resort, San Pedro de Alcantara is not brash or overly commercialised like many of its more established cousins on the Costa.
San Pedro de Alcantara holidays are definitely more laid back than the supremely glamorous neighbour, Marbella, the ritzy resort which lies only 10 klms to the west. The town's lovely central plaza is the perfect spot for an evening "rambla" or leisurely stroll and narrow, meandering streets run off to reveal cute little shops and delicious local eateries. A gorgeous promenade along Avenida del Marques del Duero, attractively lined with palm trees, stretches from the edge of town and borders a magnificent sandy beach. The beach is lined with traditional "chiringuitos" or beach bars where great local food and cooling drinks are served.
Subjects to in San Pedro de Alcantara are recommended if you enjoy experiencing a bit of local colour. The hand of time has touched the town only briefly and, whilst tourism is welcomed, it has certainly not been allowed to overtake the charm of this unspoilt Spanish "pueblo". Thursday is market day and the resort has the great honour of hosting the last summer "feria" (festival or fair) in Andalucia which is held in the 2nd week in October each year. This is a genuine celebration of the regional culture and cuisine of southern Spain.
Golf holidays in San Pedro de Alcantara are extremely popular as Marbella's "Golden Mile" is close by and some of Spain's best golf courses are located in this area.
There are no direct flights to San Pedro de Alcantara, but Aer Lingus operates daily flights to Malaga which is easily accessible along the coast road. We provide a good choice of accommodation in the direct area and also in Marbella and Estepona (which is only 20 klms from San Pedro de Alcantara.)
