Destinations / Ski, Lakes & Mountains / Saalbach (Austria)
Another Austrian gem, Saalbach lies in the district of Zell am See in the state of Salzburg. Part of the Kitzbuhel Alpen, Saalbach and the nearby small town of Hinterglemm are often considered as sister resorts and, indeed, together with Leogang, they comprise a 3 piste network. Home to the 1991 Alpine Ski Championships, Saalbach won international acclaim which simply added to its popularity as a great ski resort.
A ski holiday in Saalbach will not disappoint as there are excellent piste runs and villages in the area are pretty in that unique way when sparkling mantles of crisp snow envelop everything like starched white linen. Surrounding slopes glint bright and white in the sunshine with the dark dots of pine trees interspersed throughout. Skiing in Saalbach is pure pleasure and a real winter wonderland experience.
Nightlife in Saalbach is lively and fun and there is a good choice of bars and local restaurants. The village of Hinterglemm is much quieter and has less options for apres-ski, but is nonetheless a pleasant and enjoyable resort. Lots of outdoor activities like snowboarding, ice skating, snow tubing, sleigh rides, hiking, tennis, snow biking, paragliding and helicopter skiing are available, so no excuse to lie back and relax in the sunshine (of which there can be an abundance!).
Aer Lingus offers direct flights into Munich and we have an array of hotels in the area.
